Change your username

In this Guide

Automattic for Agencies account uses WordPress.com accounts for authentication. If you did not have a WordPress.com account when you joined Automattic for Agencies, one was created for you.

This means your WordPress.com username is the same username you use to log in to Automattic for Agencies. To change your username, update it through your WordPress.com account settings.

In this guide, you will learn how to change your WordPress.com username and your public display name.

Your WordPress.com username is your unique identifier on the platform. Two accounts cannot share the same username.

To change your username, follow these steps:

  1. Visit your WordPress.com profile page.
  2. Click on Account Settings on the left side.
  3. In the Username field, type the new username you want to use.
  4. Choose “No, don’t create a matching blog address” — this changes your username without creating a new site.
  5. Review the information presented, which confirms that:
    • You cannot change your username back to the original.
    • You cannot register a new account with the old username.
    • The old username is unavailable permanently to prevent impersonation.
    • URLs for services that use your WordPress.com account information, such as Gravatar, may be affected.
  6. Click the “Change username” button to save your changes.

⚠️

This action is irreversible. Once you change your username, the old username cannot be reused by you or anyone else.

Your agency name is separate from your WordPress.com username. To change the name of your agency as it appears in Automattic for Agencies, contact support.
