About Automattic for Agencies

In this Guide

Automattic is the company behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, WordPress VIP, Pressable, Jetpack, Tumblr, and more. It is known for its contribution to the open-source WordPress projects and offers a range of products and services related to publishing, e-commerce, and security.

Automattic for Agencies is free to join and offers unparalleled partnership across our entire suite of products through one program. It provides agencies with exclusive access to a host of economic incentives, elite support, and tools to manage all of your Automattic products in one place. This partnership is crafted to empower agencies with the resources they need to succeed in today’s dynamic digital landscape.

While the program is still in early development stages, we are building a platform where your agency will get access to specialized support, economic incentives on Automattic products, training, and resources that could help improve the deployment of Automattic products on sites, increase operational efficiencies, and enhance your offerings to clients.

If you’re a WordPress agency or freelancer, you can sign up for the platform at agencies.automattic.com/signup. For more information, you can read our full guide to signing up and managing your account.

This program is best suited for agencies who are managing 6+ sites and offering a range of digital services such as:

  • Website design and development
  • Strategy and consulting
  • Performance and optimization
  • Digital strategy and marketing
  • Maintenance and support plans

If you are a creator or influencer looking to earn on referrals, join our Automattic Affiliate program. You’ll earn a commission when you refer customers to Automattic products and services via your content.

Note: If you are a full-service agency in the Automattic for Agencies program that also creates content, you are able to be a part of both programs.

If you are an agency that specializes in plugin and/or theme development rather than building sites for clients, join Woo’s Third-Party Developer Program

Note: If you are a full-service agency in the Automattic for Agencies program who also creates plugins and/or themes, you are able to be a part of both programs.

As an Automattic for Agencies Partner, you are eligible to generate revenue based on your engagement with the Automattic for Agencies ecosystem. Your earnings may fluctuate depending on how much business you do and what type of business you bring to Automattic.

Automattic for Agencies offers two ways for you to earn: referrals of customer purchases, and volume purchases of Automattic products at a discount that can be re-sold to your customers.

To be eligible for a commission on a referral, a customer purchase must be trackable through Automattic for Agencies through the Automattic for Agencies plugin, purchased through an Automattic for Agencies cart, or via another method determined by Automattic. In that scenario, Automattic for Agencies will own the billing relationship with the end customer. We may offer you a revenue share for those referrals as outlined in the table below. Commissions are made once quarterly, calculated on a 60-day payout period and are net of refunds and chargebacks.

The second method is a wholesale model, in which you may buy products from us in bulk for a volume discount. Volume discounts do not earn a revenue share; however, they may be eligible for other incentives as outlined below.

See all available incentives and additional terms for referrals and wholesale/volume purchases.

  • Agency directory: This is a curated list or index of agencies that are involved with or recommended by an Automattic business unit. It lists agencies who have met the minimum requirements to earn a listing in the directory and have proven to have knowledge and experience working with Automattic products and services and offer development services as part of their business model.
  • Agency marketplace: A section within the Automattic for Agencies dashboard where agencies can purchase Automattic products & hosting, and those of partner companies at discounted rates. Additionally, agencies may be eligible to earn revenue shares or other incentives when they implement these products on their clients’ sites. This marketplace serves as a hub for agencies to access various products and services that can enhance the value they offer to their clients while benefiting from cost savings and financial rewards.
  • Agency partner: An Agency Partner is a third-party agency that has entered into a partnership with Automattic. Such partners usually have demonstrated proficiency with Automattic products, such as WordPress.com, WooCommerce, or Jetpack, and can provide specialized services to clients using these platforms.
  • Automattic for Agencies dashboard: A specialized interface or dashboard provided by Automattic designed for agencies. The dashboard offers tools, resources, and analytics specific to the agency’ needs, allowing them to manage their client websites, access exclusive benefits, or receive support.
  • Bulk/volume discount: A price reduction that agencies receive when they purchase hosting plans, plugins, or other Automattic products in large quantities to use across multiple client projects. This type of discount allows agencies to procure these products at a lower cost per unit. Agencies can then resell these products at the standard rate to their clients, potentially earning revenue from the markup.
  • Revenue share: A revenue share refers to a financial arrangement where agencies earn a percentage of the revenue generated from the sale or ongoing use of Automattic products by their clients. This incentive is designed to reward agencies for promoting and integrating Automattic’s offerings, such as WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, and others, into their clients’ solutions.
